Since living in Japan I’ve become super envious (even though I live here) of how much more fun Japanese McDonald’s have with promotions and limited time stuff than our McDonald’s do back in the States. Why don’t we have fun seasonal burgers every month back home? Why don’t we have Happy Meals with mini pancakes and fries? Why don’t we have awesome Happy Meal toys like Super Mario Bro’s or Dragon Quest stuff??? It’s not fair, I tell ya. I’ve even taken to tweeting the U.S. McDonalds’ Twitter account to protest our lack of fun stuff like they have here. Did they listen to me? Probably not…Anyway I digress…
One fun thing McDonald’s Japan is doing right now is they’re holding a Burger Election, wherein customers get to choose one burger from each category (Category A is beef-based burgers and Category B is other types of burgers/sandwiches) as their favorite and elect it to be the king (or queen) of burgers. Whichever burger from each category ends up with the most votes will end up having some kind of fun upgrade to it (for free) for a period. For example, if the Big Mac wins it will evolve into the Mega Mac and have double the patties (for no additional price)! If the hamburger with the egg patty on it wins they will add bacon to it for free! Fun stuff like that…As for my favorites, I’m voting for the Double Quarter Pounder from the “A” section and the Chicken Fireo (Filet O’Chicken…it’s basically a fried chicken patty with thousand island, I think, and lettuce on a bun) from the “B” section. Not only is voting fun for participating in a campaign like this but also your vote (if you do it by scanning the QR code on the food package) enters you for a chance to win a McDonald’s gift card! As for the “B” section, as you’ll see in Kinoshita Yuka’s video I’m linking below, it has more of the fun, uniquely Japanese sandwiches they offer here (like the teriyaki burger or the ebi, shrimp, burger) so I’m a bit more fond of that category as a whole.
Want to see the whole lineup? My favorite gluttonous Youtuber, Kinoshita Yuka, ate all of the burgers up for election on one video and tells for which ones she intends on voting! It’s a fun watch and will probably make you crave McDonald’s (so beware). Also, as you’ll see in the video, McDonald’s Japan has spiced curly fries for a limited time (curly fries are not too easy to find over here and, when you do find them, they tend to be a limited time thing). I haven’t tried them yet but it’s on my to-do list!
